Hi, I’m Gian Cheang, and together with some friends, we are trying to set up a fund to help a child go to school. The idea is for one donor to contribute 100 pesos ($2.3) a month. Hopefully we’d be able to garner enough donors to sustain this “project”. My target number of donor per child is 50:1.
Why only 100 pesos? So that anyone can contribute, anyone can make a difference; 100 pesos can be hardly felt. Its two beers, two pirated dvds.
The deserving child who will come from a public school will eventually be transferred to a private learning institution to give the child more opportunities to succeed. The criteria for choosing the ‘deserving’ child are still pending deliberations from friends.
Why make a blog? So that we can be transparent, donors or as I would like to call them “friends” are in various places, the blog would keep them up to date, they’d be informed on how their contributions are being spent and so on.
What inspired me/us to create a fund? I can give tons of reasons, but it all comes down to this, education is the answer to everything, poverty, pollution, crimes, inequality, hatred, etc etc.
